

The Memorial Brick Pavilion honors members of our community, employees of Union Pacific, and others with commemorative bricks embossed with the name of the person for which the brick was purchased. The Golden Spike Tower in North Platte, Nebraska provides a bird's eye view of the Union Pacific's Bailey Train Yard. The Golden Spike Tower and Visitor Center feature a courtyard with each of the twenty-three flags of states serviced by the Union Pacific Railroad. All outside attractions are open from dawn to dusk, year round. Guests enter through the main doors leading into a large gift store. An elevator takes guests to the 7th floor, where a door leads to an outdoor balcony overlooking Bailey Yard, the world's largest rail yard. The 8th floor features stories of the Merci Train, Dining Cars, Orphan Train, and Bailey Yard. Guides (virtual or in-person) are available to help visitors learn how this massive working railyard operates. Welcome to Golden Spike National Historical Park Golden Spike has numerous programs and activities that occur daily and are seasonally dependent: During the summer season, May 1st through mid-October, the visitor center is open 7 days a week, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. The Golden Spike Tower and Visitor Center opened on June 26, 2008. Community leaders thought it a good idea to erect a similar tower that would allow visitors to get a birds-eye view of Bailey Yard. The Golden Spike Tower has an awesome viewpoint over one of the largest rail yards in the world It’s not too expensive to enter, and you have plenty of placards and articles to read up on the history of this place.

The tower will be railroad spike-shaped and covered with gold-enameled metal. The idea of the Golden Spike Tower and Visitor Center was first conceived in the mid-1990s as Union Pacific's viewing platform was falling into disrepair. The Golden Spike Tower was dedicated in 2008, with a lobby that features a Hall of Fame, telling the stories of the influential folks who helped build Bailey. North Platte, NE, plans to build a 15-story Golden Spike Tower overlooking a railroad yard containing 10,000 freight cars near I-80.
